Mosaic of the Oregon Coast (click images to enlarge)
Thank you to all who wished me a Happy Birthday and to those who sent wonderful emails regarding my dolls and small "sculptures"! I hope to work on those soon as I was busy last week and didn't have a chance to finish them or start new dolls. And it didn't help that I was sick in bed this weekend. Mark had planned to go to the coast for two days to visit the golf resort he's making the model for. Even though I was sick (still am) I opted to go with him and Andres as I knew it was better to be by the ocean and not feel well than be stuck at home ! So we headed off for Lincoln City on the Oregon Coast for a quick trip.
My son Andres and I played on the beach while Mark was at his meeting. He was borrowing my camera so I didn't get shots of Andres on a sunny afternoon going up to strangers and playing with their toys or asking if he could fly their kite. He is definitely a curious and outgoing kid, always the first to start a "conversation" with just about anyone. I wish I had just a bit of the social ease he has..I hope he never loses that! Below are some shots of him (for the grandparents) that were taken the following day.
He did not want to leave the beach and planted himself in the sand when we told him we had to leave. I couldn't blame him as I didn't want to go either. I grew up near the ocean and it's funny how much you take it for granted and then miss it when you live hours away.
We took our time getting home and visited the Yamhill Valley which is quite beautiful. The hills are green and lush (so many gorgeous trees!)and lined with wineries and farms. Mark's father leads wine tours through this part of the state on a regular basis as the area is known for it's Pinots.
Wine tasting was not on our agenda, not with a rambunctious two year old in our company. Plus having sucked on nothing but Halls cough drops I can tell you what the wine would've tasted like. So we headed on over to to the Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum. Mark use to work for Evergreen years ago and recently took his students on a field trip here. Even if you aren't terribly interested in planes it's quite an impressive Museum. It's sits next to the Spruce Goose Vineyards which is named after the largest plane that the museums houses. The Spruce Goose was designed and flown by Howard Hughes and is massive. Anyhow, if you were to come to our home you would see planes hanging from our ceilings-~both Andres and Mark love anything to do with aviation.
We stayed for the Imax movie Sea Monsters: A Prehistoric Adventure. Probably not the best movie to take a toddler who is just about to start swim lessons , but he didn't have any nightmares last night so I think we're okay..
I liked this image of him and added a little quote :)
Just thought I'd share a few images from this week. Next post I should have some artwork to show. Speaking of which here is one of the presents that Mark gave me for my birthday (he carved this sign which is about three feet long!). I haven't decided what colors I want to paint it, maybe I'll just add a wash. Then it'll go up in my studio :)
I saw this little framed piece in the restroom of a toy store (yes, I carry my camera everywhere) and it made me smile so I thought I'd end my post with this.
