When I first started my business I was often asked if I would like to participate in swaps or exchange my dolls with another persons art. I decided early on not to do so and kept to that rule as I wanted to focus on making and selling my dolls. However, late last year Dani from Ambitions Design put out a call for artists (limited to 16) who would like to be involved in a skeleton head ornament swap. I jumped at the chance as it's not something I would normally do (always a good idea to try something different) and truth be told I was itching to make more Day of the Dead style art.
So here is my contribution~ Señora Lourdes Esmerelda de Calderón y Andrade. She is approx. 3" tall and is coated in layers of acrylic paint and antiquing glaze with a glossy finish. Her floral headdress is coated in the tiniest crystal glitter. The center of her eyes are also coated in the tiniest glitter and it adds just the right amount if shimmer in the evening light (unfortunately it doesn't show in these photos). She hangs from a simple black velvet ribbon with white trim.I gave her a very long name as I love Latin names ~they sound so elegant and regal ;) The "Andrade" is a little nod to one of my great grandmothers (of Spanish/Peruvian descent).
I'll be back later this week with the Skelly ornament from my swap partner Flora of Bonehead Studios..her ornament should be arriving any day now:) I believe Dani will also be showing all sixteen of the talented participants ornaments this week or next on her site and I'll post a link at that time.
Have a wonderful Sunday!
