I was thumbing through some magazines this past week and admiring the photos of perfect rooms full of elegant furniture, macro shots of vases filled with exotic flowers, lovely linens, sweet figurines, etc. Everything was perfectly placed and ultra sweet..no traces of testosterone a-n-y-w-h-e-r-e. It occurred to me that these "homes" either didn't have men (or children) in them or that they (and their toys) were confined to the garage or closet until the photo shoot was over. I couldn't help but feel a bit envious of all of this perfection.
I see this often in books, magazines, etc. Ideal homes so full of wonderfully feminine things, it would seem (just guessing here) that any man living there probably has to ask for permission to put his feet up (after he has taken off his shoes, of course ). As a semi control freak, that sounds perfectly fine in my ideal world, but that means the guys in my life would never get to really feel at home..to be themselves or express who they are or what they like. I can't imagine calling a place like that home. Architectural Digest and Martha may not be knocking on our door, begging to have our place grace the pages of their magazine~that's fine.
In honor of my guys..a reminder that we already have the perfect home..one in which we each get to be ourselves (no matter how much I complain about it looking like a bachelor's pad).I love you both..forgive me for all my griping..past and future :)
