Dia De Bloglandia, Artful Blogging & Thirty nine

I called our local bookstore to see if they had latest Artful Blogging in stock (being out in the middle of Oregon we still receive things via the pony express it seems) and I was informed they didn't carry that title anymore. What?!  I headed on over there and was relieved to see that this was not the case. This happens to be my favorite Stampington publication and I am thrilled to have a few images of my dolls in this latest issue as part of the four page Q&A article  on the Dia de Bloglandia blog event with one of the event's host Stephanie Hilvitz. It's a very thoughful interview and I'm glad to see A.B. recognize Stephanie's efforts while giving her a place to talk about el Dia de los Muertos and what it meant to her and the other participants:)

Stephanie and the fellow host Susanna have informed us that the upcoming Day of the Dead online event will be a little different this year. They are collaborating with the lovely Rebecca of Mi Corazon and participants will be creating a cigar box shrine to be auctioned off for the Street Children of Oaxaca organization ! I can't think of a more perfect collaboration ~more details to come next month and I'll post them here as I hear of them . Consider joining in and creating a shrine for the Day of the Dead online Event November 1st . That seems like a long ways away but it'll be here sooner than you know it!

Speaking of which... I have vague memories of being a child and watching Bob Hope (or some other comedy show/special) and the host would ask an audience member how old they were to which the reply was usually " thirty-nine and holding" drawing a huge laugh from the audience members. As a kid I never found it funny...I couldn't comprehend why an adult would even want to admit to being that old at minimum :) Now that I'm 39 (today) it doesn't quite seem so old (!)..and there won't be any "holding" back for me.

I'm off to a birthday breakfast, Mimosas and all~ I'll be raising a toast to being thirty-nine and letting go :)

Classics

This weekend Bend held it's annual classic car show. Having attended it before I just kind of tuned out when my husband said he'd be entering his convertible for the first time this year. "Oh, ok..make sure you take Andres with you" I replied thinking I'd have the weekend to work on dolls. I should have been a little (ok, a lot) more supportive as he mentioned it practically everyday last week but I didn't get the hint. What Mark was really asking me was to come support him. So after some nudging I came to my senses and despite the 100 degree plus heat we had an enjoyable time just spending the day together appreciating one of my husband's passions.

I was surprised to see so many cars on display..there had to have been at least five to six blocks worth of classics (1974 and before) lined up row after row after row. It took us a few hours just to see most of them. My personal car preferences are for Triumphs and Sunbeams (the kinds of cars that go off cliffs in old movies as Mark likes to remind me) and while there weren't any at this show, I found these beauties quite appealing.

Those of you familiar with the One World One Heart Event know that she is the founder  and has done an amazing job connecting bloggers with one another. She recently had a giveaway celebrating her third year of blogging~and I won:) We received her package this week and my son went crazy when he saw the art supplies she included (canvas panels, brushes, the basket, beach towel, mod-podge, lots of fabric, etc.). As with most three year olds he thought "the prizes" were for him so to prevent a meltdown I promised him a few brushes, canvas panels and paint if he just let me take pictures first. This little guy paints almost everyday and couldn't wait to get his hands on the goods (he loves Bob Ross, remember?) ~ these were the only shots I could get without him hovering over the bag :) Thank you Lisa~these items will and have been put to creative use! Back in a few days~
