Art Dolls Only Challenge,"Frida", Work in Progress Pictures

Well after a week's worth of taking care of other business it's back to doll making :) About two years ago I joined a new group called Art Dolls Only, a team made up of Etsy Doll Artists. The membership has since grown to over one hundred artists (with a waiting list of more wanting to join). As part of being a member of the group it is required that members participate in at least one challenge per year.  When I saw that one of the challenges was going to be a Frida doll I knew that was the one I would definitely find time to do. And with one week left before they're due, ahem, I am just starting mine now.

 As part of this challenge we are being asked to include work in progress photos . As you can see from the images above my "Frida doll" is at stage one.. a pile of clay being cranked through the pasta machine. I will be posting a more in upcoming posts (and additional ones on my Facebook page)~not sure if I will add them as I go or wait till the end, probably the later . I just have to remember to stop and take pics which I always seem to forget to do. Anyhow, I think this is the first time I've done  "beginning to end" WIP's..probably the last as once I get rolling on my work I do not like to stop:)

 

 

My last three Frida inspired dolls

I have two ideas in mind for my Frida doll. For those unfamiliar with how I work, I rarely stop to make sketches, save but an occasional one on a piece of scrap paper. When I start a Frida doll I have no idea how she will look, though I usually have an idea of want I want to convey..as I progress I can sometimes catch a glimpse of what she will look like. It would probably be more practical for me to sketch out a doll first but that's not how I work or have ever really worked when it comes to any of my artwork (the exception being design/some photography).

I kind of like not knowing what will happen! While I was working on my last Frida I actually stopped mid way and changed her clothing after I changed my mind as to what was going in her cigar box shrine. Sometimes Mark just kind of shakes his head when he sees me do that...just part of the "creative process" and living with an artist hon..:)

Anyhow, I need to get to work so off I go. Have a good one!
