General Doll Description
These handmade dolls are approx.13.5"/34cm in length and made of. super sculpey firm gray clay and painted with acrylics and watercolors. Their outfits are made of antique & vintage fabrics. Each doll dress was created with a beautiful black antique silk tulle adorned with black glass beads. Silk velvet black medallions adorn their bodices and some skirts. The dolls with the pale pink skirts have antique/vintage organdy material that I dyed. with wattle creating. a very pale icy pink . The other doll dresses were made using antique Japanese silk that I dyed black. (creating a dark gray with a hint of Iris) and quebracho rojo dye (creating the coral color). All dolls have an underskirt/slip made of peace silk hand dyed with wattle. Each dress is also adorned with an antique silk tulle lace embroidered with metallic flowers (hand dyed black to match outfits). The metallic lace and glass beads do sparkle nicely in the evening light..
I enjoy repurposing very old fabrics, so you will find that there is almost always some discoloration, tears, holes, repairs, frayed materials and creases in the delicate materials. I leave those flaws in each of the dolls outfits as it lends to the 'dolls in the attic' look.
Their hair is made of wispy English viscose and is adorned with 1930's French metallic trim and black bows made from Japanese silk. These dolls were specifically created to be displayed hanging on a wall and each doll has a tiny hook embedded hook into her back in case you wish to display her on the wall or as a framed piece. Please note that the dolls do not stand on their own and must be propped up carefully if displayed sitting. They should be kept out out of direct sunlight and heat. The dolls are varnished but I do add on a bit of watercolor at the end so it's best not to touch their wipe their faces.
